• "PLAYER - CUE
MATCHING" TM - Excel
2000 spreadsheet program fits players
with cues of the proper size to improve stroke performance!
•
Most CUE-SPORTS Cues are about the
same size. Yet, players come in a wide range of sizes. Imagine
everyone trying to wear the same size shoes. It just doesn't work;
neither does making cues all the same size without due consideration for the
size of the player!
•
GLADIATORS-usa.com offers a design
solution to the problem of sizing cue to individual players. The
following four 8 1/2" x 11" Excel spreadsheets automate the design
calculations and data collection needed to match players with cues.
•
This "PLAYER
- CUE MATCHING" TM - Excel 2000
spreadsheet program SOFTWARE was used by Ray Higley
to resize his standard size 58" long Prechaur
M-80 cue. Lane Simons, an Atlanta, Georgia area cue maker, built
a 6" long joint-insert for this cue. This cue was originally 58"
long, plus a 1" Sims Vibration
Laboratory LimbSavor X-1 Cue Stick Stabilizer, plus the 6"
joint-insert; the cue now as used is 65" long. The original cue
without the 6" joint-insert weighed 18.11 oz. The 6"
joint-insert weighs 2.31 oz., making the length modified cue weight = 20.42
oz.
•
In the above graph the "Player Characteristics" are
shown by the three "red" lines, and the "Cue Characteristics" are shown by
the "blue" line.
•
When a cue is "matches" well with a player, the "blue"
"Cue Characteristics" graph will fall within the "red" "Player
Characteristics" graph. Improved cue sizing means a smoother stroking cue and improve playing performance for the Pool player!

CASE STUDIES:
•
CASE I: 3-19-04 Player: Ray Higley Cue:
HanBat Billiard Cue w/Modified Ferrule Before Modification: Bridge Distance: 8" Separation Distance: 38" Balance: 37" Cue Length: 57"
•
The above photo shows cue Balance and Hold locations
"before" modification by addition of an 8" joint-extension (shown).
•
Case I - After Modification: Bridge Distance: 8" Separation Distance: 45" Balance: 42" Cue Length: 65"
•
CASE I - Modification Results: (1) An 8" cue extension was custom built to GLADIATORS-usa.com specifications by Lane Simons at a cost of $25.00. The extension matches the
original wood & screw characteristic as much as possible. (2) The modified cue with extension added was tested and the after modification Cue Characteristics graph was prepared.
The "After" graph shows the extended cue as matching with the Player, Ray Higley's, Player Characteristics. (3) Ray Higley plays better with the cue than before the
extension was used to modify the cue and has won several local Pool tournaments with the extended length cue .

Case II - After Modification: Bridge Distance: 8" Separation Distance: 43" Balance: 43.5" Cue Length: 65"
•
CASE II - Modification Results: (1) An 6" cue extension was custom built to GLADIATORS-usa.com specifications by Lane Simons at a cost of $25.00. The extension matches the
original wood & screw characteristic as much as possible. (2) The modified cue with extension added was tested and the after modification Cue Characteristics graph was prepared.
The "After" graph shows the extended cue as matching with the Player, Ray Higley's, Player Characteristics. (3) Ray Higley plays better with the cue than before the
extension was used to modify the cue. The extension has made the modified cue to now match well with the player's desired hold characteristics. (4) Although this
Prechaur cue is a more expensive cue than the Case I, HanBat Billiard
Cue; the HanBat is preferred by Ray Higley due to the more precise 10 mm tip and stiffer 14 mm shaft without the
Prechaur's pro-taper. This extended Prechaur cue will serve as a back-up cue. (5) Ray Higley has since (2005) began to play more often with the modified
Prechaur cue and
use the HanBat Billiard
Cue as a backup cue. Both
cues now play better after modification with joint-extensions.
