SIMONS CUES - Lane Simons - Custom Cue Maker: "I want all my

customers to know that my cues will not be discounted.  Future prices will be held

steady or increased on comparable cues."

*  I've known Lane since about 2005, and he has done a number of cue repairs and

experimental cue modifications for me.  I've always been very happy with his work.

He is very dedicated to mastery of his cue art; in both performance and creation of

enduring beauty.  Lane is very knowledgeable concerning cue shop practices, cue

construction materials; everything relating to cues and cue making.  He

consistently provides excellent customer service, and is always "very fair" in the

pricing for his work.  I would expect Lane's cues to increase in value as players and

cue collectors become more familiar with his cues, and appreciation grows for

Lane's well crafted cues.

*  I would advise Lane and everyone who has purchased Lane's cues to take greater

interest in cue identification now; be sure cue's are personally signed / dated , as

are other great art.  Someday, someone will be holding a cue and will wonder

where it came from; artists should be proud enough of their work to lend it their

name.  The future will come faster that we all realize.

Dr. David G. Alciatore, PE ("Dr. Dave") - Associate Professor, Mechanical

Engineering, Colorado State University, 1991-present.  Author: "The Illustrated

Principles of Pool and Billiards".

*  I personally don't know David, but I corresponded with him over the Internet

occasionally; as we share an interest in the technical details of CUE-SPORTS

PHYSICS.  I have purchased and read David's book: "The Illustrated

Principles of Pool and Billiards" and I recommend this book to anyone

wanting to educate themselves further about the fascinating details involved in

all CUE-SPORTS.

McDermott Handcrafted Cues  (overview):  Descriptions and prices on

over 150 current McDermott cues and a link to the exclusive McDermott Private

Reserve Collection cues.

McDermott - "Star Pool Cues":  Every Star pool cue comes loaded with an

extensive an extensive list of standard features. Every single detail has been

agonized over.  The little stuff is big to us – and it’s as simple as that.  Star is the

exciting lower price brand of cues from McDermott, with full Lifetime Warranty.

*  One of my first cues was a McDermott 'Sneaky Pete' style cue; I wish I would

have kept this cue as a 'collector's item';  I never had any problems with this cue, as

I was in the habit of taking good care of my tools.  Jim McDermott took this cue off

the market; as too many players abused the cue and split the shaft at the joint.

*  I met Jim once at the 1988 BCA Trade Show in Louisville, Kentucky; I wish I had

been more interested to build cues at that time and had taken opportunity to

discuss cue building with Jim.  I released my 'POOL TARGET' shot making

training aid at this trade show, and I enjoyed meeting many people involved with

Cue-Sports while I was an exhibitor at this trade show.

Dennis Dieckman - CUE BUILDER

*  I've thoroughly reviewed Mr. Dieckman's website, and I found him open and

honest about cue making.   In July 2007, I spent a lot of time talking with Mr.

Dieckman on the phone about cue building.  Dennis is very a knowledgeable and

interesting man of high character; obviously, with a great love of CUE-SPORTS.

*  "International Cuemakers Association", Chris Hightower -

International Director; Cue Man Billiard Products

*  I purchased Chris's "The Cue Building Book" in late July 2007.  I read its

252 pages in a couple of days.  I found this book interesting and very informative;

Chris is open and honest, loves CUE-SPORTS and actively works to educate

players, cue collectors, cue makers and the public concerning all aspects of making

wood cues.

I recommend "The Cue Building Book"; it furthers public appreciation of the

many details concerning cue making, and represents a needed leap forward for

CUE-SPORTS from darker-ages when cue making practices were closely held

"secrets" of wood craftsman.

*  Tibbitts Custom Cues (Danny Tibbitts)

* I haven't seen Danny in many years; a long time ago (1985?)  I spent a long

Sunday with Danny in his cue making workshop, where I watched as Danny made

an extra-length experimental cue for me from a couple of Duffern one-piece cues.

We exchanged an interesting time talking about cue-making design theory, and I

had FUN playing with the cue he made for me that day.  That cue is now long

gone, but Danny made a positive and lasting impression on me; I'm glad that he is

enjoying success in his chosen craft of cue making.

Rod Cross, SPORT PHYSICS, Billiard Ball Collisions - "Squirt"

*  I actively share an interest in CUE-SPORTS PHYSICS with Rod; and we have

been corresponding concerning open questions regarding the dynamic modeling

of a cue impacting with an object ball.  Rod explains "SQUIRT" in terms of  "GEAR

ACTION" as contact friction "STICKS" (no Miscue) the cue tip to the cue ball, and

both the cue ball and the cue are turned and 'push laterally' on each other during

the impact process:

"Experimental Study of the GEAR EFFECT in Ball Collisions"

Rod Cross

Physics Department, University of Sydney, Sydney NSW 2006, Australia.

Alan M. Nathan

Department of Physics, University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois 61801.

Received 4 October 2006; accepted 9 February 2007

The "gear effect" arises when a ball collides with an object and the object recoils

with a component of its acceleration in a direction parallel to the two contacting

surfaces.  Two experiments are described that show how the surfaces of the

impacting object can engage without slip similar to two gears.  The effect is used in

golf club striking face design to correct for off-center impacts and it plays a minor

role in baseball.

*  One of my first Pool cues was a Meucci 'Sneaky Pete' type cue; this was many

years ago, while Meucci was making cues with conventional solid wood shafts.  I

replaced the very thin ferrule on this cue several times; understanding 'hit' was

more important than cue durability.  I eventually switched to a more durable

Heubler  'Sneaky Pete' cue (I had several Heubler cues that I modified to improve

weight distribution; when they were sold, I bought another.), and my last wood

play cue, before developing and play testing (since FEB 2008) my own

MJOLNIR Cues TM, was a highly-modified Pechauer 'Sneaky Pete'.
